About GCPC
Gujarat Cleaner Production Centre (GCPC) was established in the year 1998 by the Department of Industries and Mines, Government of Gujarat with technical guidance of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), to promote and propagate the idea of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP), to foster Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development in the state of Gujarat.
GCPC is a Regular Member of Global Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Network (RECPnet) of UNIDO and Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN), an operational arm of UNFCCC hosted by UNEP.
GCPC is actively engaged in the promotion of Cleaner Production (CP)/Clean Technology (CT) through its various activities such as Orientation/Awareness programmes, CP Assessment projects, CP Demonstration projects, CP Dissemination programme etc.
Contributions of GCPC over the years towards promotion of CP / CT in the state of Gujarat to improve the productivity and reduce the environmental problems faced by SMEs have been significant.
GCPC had played an active role in framing Industrial Policy 2004, 2009 and 2015 and also supported in developing many financial assistance schemes pertaining to CP/CT.
GCPC has so far conducted more than 500 CP orientation programmes in different Academic Institutions and Industrial Estates. The centre has successfully completed more than 200 CP Demonstration Projects in various sectors like Textile, Dairy, Pulp & Paper, Chemical, Petrochemical, Pharmaceutical, Fish Processing, Electroplating, Hotel, Hospital, Bentonite Manufacturing, Stone Crushing etc. GCPC has documented several success stories of the implementations of CP / CT.
About GCPC-ENVIS RP
GCPC is an Environmental Information System (ENVIS) Resource Partner (RP) on ‘Cleaner Production’ (CP) and ‘Clean Technology’ (CT). since 2017, as per the new mandate of ENVIS, MoEF&CC, GoI. The centre started its activities under ENVIS as a Node in the year 2003 and the Node has been converted to Centre in the year 2005.
Mandate of ENVIS RPs:
Repository of Environmental Knowledge: Maintain and update subject-specific database, produce value-added products such as: Educational-kits on various themes including international protocols/ conventions/agreements; environmental videos, photo bank, mobile Apps, CDs, Case studies, success stories and directories of information on State/regional/ National level, Compendium, abstracts and journals, research papers etc.
Monitor and map districts (divided into grids of 50 km x 50 km) on identified parameters in a phased manner.
To partner in implementation of environmental activities under Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) and Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) and for achieving INDCs and SDGs.
To assist ENVIS Secretariat in building South Asian Environmental Knowledge Hub
Other activities in project mode - valuate eco-system services and calculate Green GDP at District/State level; estimate carbon generation, carbon sequestration, GHG emissions etc.
