The newspaper Diário MS is the result of the merger of three weekly newspapers: Panfleto, Jornal do Vale and Zangão. They were the ones that gave rise to the Diário do Povo, the name with which the newspaper was created, a first edition of which circulated on September 15, 1993.
The pamphlet, created on August 27, 1983, was produced on Mondays and Tuesdays, to circulate on Wednesdays. The drone, after Vitoriano Carbonera Cales received the authorization of the former owners, was reissued from 1985. It circulated every Monday. And Jornal do Vale, launched in 1987, produced and edited on Wednesdays and Thursdays, to circulate on Friday.
With Vitor Cales and Paulo Falcão as partners, the first edition of the new printed newspaper (Diário do Povo) circulated on September 15, l993, under an environment of great expectation. The first editorial stated: “A new era is born”. On the cover, an aerial photo of the city of Dourados, with an inviting headline: “Good morning Dourados and region”.
Gradually it consolidated itself as the newspaper of the region, the one that witnessed the fertilization of the three embryos. It was, therefore, the same region that, through acceptance and encouragement, gave rise to the Diário do Povo slogan: “The regional integration newspaper”.
Credibility, seriousness and professionalism in dealing with the news strengthened the vehicle, projecting it across the State and guaranteeing its space in the press of Mato Grosso do Sul.
However, a homonymous ‘brand’ in Campinas (SP) forced the management to change the name of the newspaper. Then the Diário MS was born, a name created by the newspaper's founder, Vitoriano Carbonera Cales, Vitor, who wanted a comprehensive brand that was not limited to just one region.
The first edition with the new name circulated on December 13, 2000. It also marked the move of the old building, on Mato Grosso street, to the current address, on the corner of Joaquim Teixeira Alves and Toshinobu Katayama streets.
The MS Daily runs from Monday to Friday.
Since April 1, 2011, the company is solely under the direction of journalist Alfredo Barbara Neto, since the previous partnership was disbanded in mutual agreement between the parties involved.
