About Altamura Pizza

When you step into Altamura, you step into a world with the smells, tastes and feel of the wonderful, historic town of its Italian namesake. A place with real, healthful Italian cooking that you can make in your own home.

Please your family and guests with a delicious meal from your oven or stove. And all in just a few minutes with little preparation on your part.

The Puglia region, specifically the town of Altamura – world famous for bread - is a place I have been fortunate to visit with our family many times.

I am Steve St. John, a longtime resident of Hinsdale. In fact, I attended Hinsdale Central, taught math and coached at HMS, before operating a successful international training business where I met my wife Carmela. In 2001, we moved to Clarendon Hills to raise our sons.

Carmela was raised in Altamura, in the Puglia region of southern Italy. Like many first generation Italians, Carmela and her sister, Ortensia, who has helped develop our many inspired recipes, have very discerning tastes when it comes to anything Italian.

With the idea of opening a store, our first question was how to bring real Italian pizza to the community. That meant it would have to be an authentic Italian crust - one made from the same water, soil, environment and recipe as you would find in Altamura. There was only one way to do this. Bring crusts, made by Master Pizzaioli in Puglia, here.

Next we focused on other delicious foods produced from this region, to stay true to the diet from that region. Explore our many exciting products on line and available in our store.

This is a family business. My sister-in-law, Ortensia, my wife and I are proud that our sons Louis, a Hinsdale Central graduate and sophomore on the soccer team at the University of Dayton, along with his brother, Nicolas, a sophomore at HC participating in soccer and basketball, are involved in Altamura.

“We are thrilled to share our mother’s flavorful cuisine made with love and goodness from the rich growing region of Altamura, our Italian hometown." Carmela St. John

We look forward to serving you.
