How to become a teacher - teacher education and teacher quality

Teacher Education aims to provide a teacher education program through initial training of trained teachers, and in-service training for practicing teachers in order to produce knowledgeable and committed teachers for effective teaching and learning. To fulfill this mission, teacher education programs have been established to train teachers. These programs differ from country to country. Even within the same country, there may be different teacher training programs for the same degree. These alternative programs have been established, especially, where there is a shortage of teachers, and attempts are made to train large numbers of teachers simultaneously. These alternative programs facilitate teacher certification requirements, allowing those who would not become teachers under normal circumstances. This poses serious challenges. Since large numbers of teachers are required within a short period, their training is fairly fast leading to what are commonly referred to as non-baked teachers - teachers of lower quality. Applicants who do not get admission to the program of their choice come to teaching only because they have nowhere else to go. These applicants tend not to be devoted to the teaching service in the end. The initial preparation of fast-track teachers actually hurts the mission for which the initial teacher training institutions were created. This is because the teacher that is being produced through this training is usually not of high quality.

How to become a teacher
Teacher preparation has a direct impact on student achievement. The most important factor within a school on which a student's success depends is a well-prepared teacher. A well-prepared teacher is one who has undergone a robust teacher preparation program. It is therefore imperative for educators to bring about the needed improvements in teacher training. To enhance teacher preparation, teacher education programs should provide strong preparation during the initial teacher training period and provide support for new teachers to be recruited. Pre-service teacher education should emphasize the acquisition of effective teaching strategies. This can be done in the corresponding methodology classes and field experiences. Students with good teachers achieve gains in achievement, while those with ineffective teachers show a decrease, so having quality teachers in the classroom has a positive effect on students' achievement.
