In the last decade, the pressures related to pollution, climate change and overfishing represent a strong threat to the marine ecosystem and to the fishing communities which are increasingly reporting a sharp reduction in fish populations in our seas. To investigate the phenomenon and study possible solutions, a synergy between citizens, fishermen, producers, divers and institutions is necessary.
For this reason, the issue of marine pollution and the consequences on the ecosystem is being extensively explored also at the local level through the BONSEA project, funded by the 2014/2020 EMFF National Program, implemented by [b] CIHEAM Bari [/ b] and [ b] the University of Salento [/ b], which intends to safeguard biodiversity and coastal marine ecosystems through actions aimed at participatory monitoring and improvement of the environmental status of the marine areas most subject to anthropogenic activities in the stretch of sea overlooking Otranto and Santa Maria di Leuca - Salento, Puglia.
The BOSEA APP, promoted by the BONSEA project, is a citizen science tool in which citizens can actively and widely contribute to the environmental monitoring of their territory. In projects of this type, the citizens' measurements in fact integrate the official sources, thus making it possible to broaden and make more widespread knowledge of the territory and its environmental problems and also identify suitable actions to improve the quality of the environmental state.
Help us to collect reports on any type of "environmental anomaly" encountered during fishing, navigation, scuba diving and / or any other type of practice at sea or along the coast.
