The Abyssinian cat is originally from Ethiopia (formerly known as Abyssinia). Its coat is dyed in the characteristic red-orange agouti color. In fact, "agouti" is not really a name for a color. This term means the presence of both dark and light areas on individual hairs. It is this feature that gives the Abyssinians an unusual look.
