"Feel La Retirada" is a tourist gamification experience through augmented reality promoted by the Camprodon City Council with the development of Amazing Up - Innovation for Tourism.
The game, centered on the Catalan town of Campodrón, transports the visitor between the years 1936 to 1939 to learn about the events that took place in the town during the Civil War and La Retirada, a historical event that marked the end of the war.
Since December 23, 1938, when the national troops position themselves before Barcelona, the republicans begin to retreat. The subsequent entry into the capital of General Franco triggers thousands of combatants and civilians to flee en masse towards the French border in what is historically known as La Retirada, or the recoil. It lasted three weeks between January and February 1939.
Camprodon was one of the last towns before reaching the border, and thousands of people took refuge and passed through it before reaching Coll d'Ares. Both the Civil War and the subsequent Retreat involved a transformation of the town from 1936 to February 1939. To discover them, "Feel La Retirada" offers the visitor five routes to learn about history through the historic buildings that were transformed during those years due to the war context; commerce, the productive fabric of Camprodon throughout its history; the nature that characterizes and surrounds the environment or the immaterial heritage rooted in traditions. In addition, the tour includes the neighboring towns of Rocabruna and Beget, also protagonists of the historical events that are related.
"Feel La Retirada" implements the tourist experience through augmented reality technology, which allows the user to interact with the environment. Five virtual characters will accompany the visitor in their experience to discover the memory of La Retirada in the town. Among them, historical figures such as Dr. Robert, promoter of the summer vacation of the Catalan bourgeoisie and high society in Camprodon or Peret Blanc, a traditional musician from Beget of great relevance in the region and who lived through the years of the Civil War. In addition to three fictional characters who embody prominent profiles for history: a republican soldier, a pagesa and a teacher.
The game has extensive historical documentation supported by audiovisual materials that transport the user from the period 1936-1939 to the present day.
To complete the trip, visitors will receive different gifts after meeting the objectives of the routes that can be purchased at the Tourist Office of the town.
