Janez Vajkard Valvasor described his home in the Glory of the Duchy of Carniola in the following words: In the regional language, the castle and lordship of Wagensperg are called Bogenšperk; lies in Dolenjska, four miles from Ljubljana. This castle is another of those old mountain castles built on a high hill in the middle of the woods. It has a view of the high snowfields towards Carinthia and Styria, clean and healthy air, not flat, but still fields on the hills, excellent fruit of all kinds - cherries are four or five on one stalk - near the vineyard and not far from the castle beautiful black and yellow marble, which I have already described in its place.
