Welcome to the 2023 Balinese Calendar

The Balinese calendar is a calendar that developed in the Balinese Hindu community, a combination of the Gregorian Calendar (Christian Calendar), the Balinese Saka Calendar and the Tika Calendar. The Gregorian calendar (Greek Calendar) is a calendar that is used internationally which uses the calculation of the Year (Date) of the Gregorian calendar. The Gregorian calendar includes the Solar System. The Bali Saka Calendar is a Saka Calendar that developed in Bali using the Lunar Date which is adjusted to the Solar Date. Meanwhile, the Tika Calendar is a non-astronomical Balinese traditional calendar, compiled based on Pawukon/Wuku and Wewaran.

The Tika calendar does not care about astronomical positions at all, but its use for the Balinese people cannot be separated from the use of the Balinese Saka calendar. Religious ceremonies (yadnya) such as piodalan at temples are held apart from Pawukon and also using Pananggal or Panglong in the Balinese Saka Calendar System. Even so, in daily life the Balinese people still use the Gregorian Calendar which is determined internationally.

Some of the rules in the Balinese calendar are as follows:

1.One day is twenty-four hours where the change of day occurs at sunrise.

2. One week is called Saptawara, consisting of seven days, namely Redite, Coma, Anggara, Buda, Wraspati, Sukra, Saniscara, where the change of week starts on Redite. Redite is the same as Sunday in the Gregorian calendar.

The names of the weeks taking the Wuku System (Pawukon) are: Sinta, Landep, Carving, Kulantir, Toulu, Gumbreg, Wariga, Warigadean, Julungwangi, Sungsang, Dungulan, Kuningan, Langkir, Medangsia, Pujut, Paang, Krulut, Merakih, Tambir, Medangkungan, Matal, Uye, Menail, Prangbakat, Bala, Ugu, Wayang, Kulawu, Dukut, Watugunung.

4. One year consists of twelve months where the change of year occurs on the Saka New Year, namely the first day of Waisakha or Pananggal Ping Pisan Sasih Kadasa. The names of the months are: Kasa, Karo, Katiga, Kapat, Kalima, Kanem, Kapitu, Kaulu, Kasanga, Kadasa, Jyesta, Sada.
