About uv2Day

The UV Index (UVI) is a measure of skin-damaging ultraviolet radiation. This App provides estimates of the current UVI from sunlight, and how it varies throughout the day at your current location, or at other selectable locations within the New Zealand, Australia, and Pacific regions. In these regions the UVI is considered "extreme" when it is 11 or more - and damage to fair-skin can occur within 15 minutes, and “low” when it is less than 3. The App can be used to plan your day’s activities to optimise sun exposure. When the UVI exceeds 3, protection is required to avoid sunburn. When the UVI is less than 3, no protection is required, and you can safely expose your skin to sunlight to help maintain your vitamin D levels. The UVI forecast data used in this app are provided by NIWA. The ozone data used as input into the UVI value forecasts are based on global measurement from NOAA satellites. More information is available with the App, which is supported by the Cancer Society of New Zealand.
