This is a system in which the government pays benefits to seniors aged 65 or older whose recognized income is less than the selection standard in order to help the elderly live in their old age and distribute pension benefits fairly.
In July 2014, when the system was introduced, the standard pension amount was set at a maximum of KRW 200,000 per month, and to ensure the real value of the standard pension amount, the standard pension amount has been raised every year by reflecting the consumer price inflation rate of the previous year.
The standard pension amount (single household) of the basic pension in 2023 is KRW 323,180, an increase from the previous year by reflecting the consumer price inflation rate of the previous year.
