Silent Radiance is a special application used to play back digital broadcasts over a Wi-Fi network via broadcast. This sounds better than standard analog silent disco, plus you get great visuals that goes with the music.
This is an open source application with the sources available at http://open.killercool.com. In the best conditions, one transmitter should handle up to 200 people at once.
It also works on Android TV's.
Caveats:
1. The application only works with a music server (DJ setup) in proximity of 75 to 150 feet. and should provide an internet connection to gateway to.
2. The server software is designed to run on laptops with the linux operating system installed and specific Broadcom wifi cards.
2. Bluetooth headphones tend to interfere with the broadcast, and this interference will affect multiple listeners. Because of this, Bluetooth is disabled while running the app.
3. The linux server acts as a wi-fi router/access point. Things tend to work better when the linux server has additional access to the internet. Most phones will still work without the internet connection.
4. Google location (via google maps) tends to like High accuracy mode to determine locations. This uses wifi as well as GPS. On some phones High accuracy mode causes the music to cut in and out. A red warning sign comes up and allows the user to switch to GPS only mode.
