ABOUT ASSESSMENT OF THE LEARNING SKILLS
(FOR SCHOOL & COLLEGE STUDENTS)
Introduction
Much has been said and written about the importance of learning. But what does it really mean? At its most basics, it means being open to new experiences and ideas, and allowing ourselves to grow from what we encounter in the world.
Many people think of learning as studying, but this is not the case. When you study, you do normally learn but learning can go far beyond structured or unstructured studying. You can learn from any and all experiences in your life. We recognize this by using phrases such as:
“There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with education.
The whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning”.
- Jiddu Krishnamurti, Philosophical and Spiritual Writer and Speaker.
Along with this, learning is also a skill and it can be improved. Everyone has the opportunity to develop their memory and learning ability. Identifying your own learning skills, styles and methods that works for you is the key to success in any learning situations and conditions.
Educators and workforce experts today often warn that our children need improved 21st century skills. Without these skills, they will not be able to successfully participate in the global economy and withstand the pressure of 21st century’s knowledge explosion. They won’t be adequately prepared for college and work.
But what, exactly, are 21st century skills? Are we just talking about computer and technology skills? And who decides which skills make the list?
It depends on who you ask. But according to a research report, apart from computers & technology, the research recently analyzed six major educational frameworks (containing more than 20+ different study skills) designed to improve the development of 21st century skills..
According to them “More than technological expertise, 21st century skills refer to content knowledge, literacy and proficiencies that prepare individuals to meet the challenges and opportunities of today’s world,”
Taking into consideration about the above said contents and the present educational system of our country where the major focus of attention by the students, teachers and parents is only towards theoretical or academic improvements, with our carrier diagnostics project we are intended to help students, teachers, schools and parents to understand the intensity of the need for learning skills, take specific diagnostic tests to identify their present level and initiate necessary action plan based on the test report.
In the very first stage of our conception, among lot many numbers of educational skills which are needed to be addressed, we bring you two different learning skill assessment tests to identify the levels of the most basic educational skills of our students’ with audio/video tutorials to help them solve the related problems and need.
Once the basic level is addressed, we will further address the other specific learning skill areas to explore, assess and co-coordinately help them improve.
Why SKILL ASSESSMENT TEST is our first priority?
We believe that Assessment for Learning and quality feedback with proper, necessary, in time & regular support for the same can and do promote increased learner progress. However, assessment of learning rather than assessment for learning has preoccupied the minds of the profession for many years in an effort to meet awarding body requirements.
