The costal part of the Palghar district is known for horticultural region. Palghar district is mainly popular for Sapota production particularly Gholvad area. It is observed that due to suitable soil and climatic condition, there are large numbers of Sapota orchards, in this area have been developed. The Sapota plantation has totally changed the economic condition of this area.
The current area under cultivation of Sapota plantation is 6288 ha and the production of the Sapota fruits is about 16t/ha. Sapota tree bears year round and fruits are available throughout the year. After plantation of the Sapota tree the fruit bearing started after 5-6 year and it gives the fruits up to 75-80 year.
Now a days, the farmers are facing problems like old and senile orchards, seed borer, bud borer, fruit drop due to phytopthera etc. This affect the economy of this district which is predominantly depend on Sapota orchards. In this back ground, KVK Kosbad Hill developed APP as “SAPOTA GUIDE” to get the online solutions to the farmers on these issues.
