About BMNGombe Evapotranspiration

Evapotranspiration is the total water lost to the atmosphere daily as vapour via evaporation and transpiration.

This App was developed after an in-depth optimisation of Blaney Morin Nigeria (BMN) Evapotranspiration Estimation Model for Gombe State using Levenberg-Marquardt Algorithm in MATLAB environment:http://bit.ly/42yvGkE number 45.

The App is applicable for Gombe State and other areas with similar climatic conditions in Nigeria and beyond.

Input data can be obtained via the Internet, local meteorological stations, media houses’ daily weather updates and so on

This App is best applied using monthly meteorological data but can also serve daily, weekly and annual where the need arises. A value of 0.08 for solar radiation ratio especially for Gombe State can be used alternatively where solar radiation information is not available.

This app is applicable and beneficial in the field of soil and water engineering, agriculture, environmental management, hydrology, water resources management and development etc. The breakdown of some of the benefits is itemised as thus:

1.Water use efficiency: helps to determine how much water plants need.

2.Scheduling of irrigation: can be used to determine optimal time and frequency of irrigation.

3.Crop yield optimisation: it can help optimise crop yield as water can be used efficiently thereby maximising profit.

4.Energy conservation: it can help determine the amount of energy needed to move water for irrigation which can help in saving energy and reducing cost.

5.Water management: information on the amount of water lost via evapotranspiration which the app gives can help water managers to better allocate and distribute the water resources efficiently.

6.Climate studies: the app can be used to estimate the contribution of plants to hydrological cycle for hydrology and hydrogeological studies.

7.Environmental management: it can help managers of the environment to assess the impact of changes in land use such as urbanisation or deforestation to water cycle.
