A preferred variant for the traffic connection A2 - N230 has been designed to improve traffic flow and road safety. The preferred variant is the Divergent Diamond (Divergent Diamond Intersection or DDI).
The DDI is a connection where the traffic is briefly routed to the other side of the road. This reduces the number of passages through traffic lights at connections to motorways to one, instead of two. The concept is mainly used in the United States, but they are also very sporadically used in Europe.
The DDI is still a new concept in the Netherlands and thus a visualization has been made by Letink Design on behalf of the Province of Utrecht.
In this application you will find an Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality view of the DDI. Download and print the AR marker available in the application and place it down. If you choose the AR option and the start screen and your telephone point at it, the DDI is visible.
From the AR you can visualize the traffic flows, view extra information, zoom in and switch to 360 degrees Virtual Reality viewpoints. For the Virtual Reality view you can swipe in the full screen to watch round or use optional VR glasses.
