About Liga 2

Liga 2 or also called Pegadaian League 2 for sponsorship reasons by Pegadaian (previously this League was called the Liga Indonesia Premier Division) is the second level professional league in the Indonesian football league system. This competition began in the 1994 season under the name Indonesian League Premier Division as the top division in the Indonesian football league system. After the formation of the Indonesian Super League in 2008, the Premier Division dropped to the second division. League 2 was held for the first time in the 2017 season as the first rebranding. Then, the Nusantara League will start in 2023 as the second rebranding.

History of the current League 2 competition is a competition that cannot be separated from the series of top competitions in Indonesia since the colonial era. As is known, before the birth of the Indonesian Super League in 2008, League 2, which at that time was called the Indonesian League Main Division, was the highest level competition in Indonesia.

The birth of the Indonesian League Premier Division began in 1994, at which time PSSI merged 2 existing competitions, namely the Perserikatan competition and the Galatama competition to form a new competition called the Indonesian League Premier Division which was the forerunner of the current League 2, the purpose of which was merged. The two competitions under the auspices of PSSI are to combine the fanaticism that exists in the union teams owned by each city/district government in Indonesia and the professionalism of the Galatama clubs in order to improve the quality of Indonesian football which is free from match-fixing and encourages club towards a professional club.
