Loss & Damage

Loss & Damage is a diagnostic tool that visualizes regions with acute climate change induced tradeoffs of economic development and environmental management. The tool employs supervised data entry and machine- driven analytics to trace regions most in need of improved institutional capacity to effectively prepare for and respond to climate events such as droughts, heat waves, floods and fires that have the potential to threaten the resilience of the global food system.The loss and damage app is derived from the Climate Induced Loss and Damage Agriculture Stress (CILDAS) index. Data generated via the app is used to populate a map of the world to signify regions with high (red), medium (yellow), and low (green) intensity tradeoffs. Regions experiencing varying levels of tradeoff intensity are co-related to regions experiencing losses and damages, thereby putting the spotlight on governance measures that can potentially bridge the gap between mitigation and adaptation planning.
