For some years Artemisia Gentileschi has become a symbol: her works tell the story of courageous women, capable of fighting at the cost of their own lives to prove they exist and the life of the artist is an example. It must not have been easy for Artemisia to establish herself as a painter in a world that did not allow women to attend art schools; it must not have been easy for her to face a trial (the painter Agostino Tassi, a friend and colleague of her father had been raped) to protect herself and her right to decide.
In the name of Artemisia, a communication project was carried out aimed at students of a network of upper secondary schools who will mainly use the laboratory and content production method, a project carried out by Mandragola Editrice and the Associazione A Mano Disarmata, funded by the Department for the Equal Opportunities of the Presidency of the Council.
The theme of art as a possibility of emancipation from degrading stereotypes of inferiority linked to gender and attitudes of absolute submission to the dominant masculine power inspired the communication project. All students were given tools to systematically analyze the current language used on the most common social media. In particular, the reflection concerned the language with a negative sexual connotation towards women and the frequent justifications of violent actions. The topic of "secondary victimization" of abused women was also addressed. The mechanism by which the executioners become victims, overturning responsibility, and finally the use of degrading and objectifying images of the female body. The aim is to create a sort of common knowledge chain on respect for women, starting from language.
