The Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) is the provider of Halal Product Assurance (JPH) in Indonesia. One of the powers of BPJPH is to issue and revoke halal certificates which were previously the responsibility of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) as stated in Government Regulation (PP) RI Number 39 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of the Halal Product Assurance Sector dated February 2, 2021 which was signed by President Joko Widodo.
In addition to issuing and revoking halal certificates, BPJPH also has the authority to formulate and determine JPH (Halal Product Guarantee) policies, establish JPH norms, standards, procedures, and criteria, as well as register halal certificates on foreign products.
This agency under the Ministry of Religion is also entitled to accredit the Halal Inspection Agency (LPH), foster halal auditors, and supervise JPH.
JPH is a legal certainty regarding the halalness of a product as evidenced by a halal certificate and all products that enter, circulate and trade in Indonesia must be certified halal.
APPLICATION FOR HALAL CERTIFICATE
Business actors who wish to obtain a halal certificate for their products can apply for a halal certificate to BPJPH through an electronic system. The application is accompanied by four documents.
First, data on business actors.
The data is evidenced by a business registration number (NIB) or other business license documents.
Second, the product name and type
Must match the name and type of product to be certified halal.
Third, the list of products and ingredients used
Must be halal products and materials as evidenced by a Halal Certificate.
Fourth, product processing or PPH
Contains information regarding the purchase, receipt, storage of materials used, processing, packaging, storage of finished products, and distribution.
