Saint Ignatius of Loyola International Congress
From May 20, 2021 to July 31, 2022, the Society of Jesus celebrates the 500th anniversary of the conversion of Saint Ignatius (Ignatius 500), commemorating the period that goes from the wound that Ignatius receives in the siege of Pamplona until his arrival. to Manresa and his first steps there, passing through his stay in Montserrat. This period is a key moment in his life in which a radical turn takes place that will lead him to his path of following the Lord and to the foundation of the Society of Jesus. By recalling this time in the life of Saint Ignatius, we open ourselves to our own conversion and reorientation towards God's will for us.
The International Congress on Saint Ignatius, organized by the Cathedral Chapter of Córdoba, is part of the celebration of this anniversary to delve into the paths along which Saint Ignatius of Loyola invites us to walk as a Church. The approach to the figure of Saint Ignatius allows us to discover a fruit that was a mark of his conversion throughout his life: discernment as a lifestyle in the Church. As Fr. General Arturo Sosa stated in his speech at the International Congress on Saint John of Ávila in 2019, the life of Saint Ignatius, like that of Saint John of Ávila, another great spiritual innovator of that time, invites us to move forward « toward a discerning synodal church.
