Mahatma Gandhi Government Post Graduate College of Arts and Sciences Kharsia District Raigad was first established by Municipal Council Kharsia as an non-government college on August 14, 1969. Earlier there was only Arts Faculty, under which B.A. a. Classes were conducted. Later, with the efforts of the late Municipal Council President and ex-officio Chairman of the College Education Committee, Late Mr. Lakhiram Agarwal, the Faculty of Commerce was started. In undivided Madhya Pradesh, this college was the only college run by the municipal council and higher education of commerce in undivided Raigad district was started from this college. There were many obstacles in the tenure of the college operations by the municipality, but due to the far-sighted intentions of the socio-cultural-educational development of the founder president of the college, this college continued to develop.
