Cairokee is an Egyptian rock band singing in Arabic with the Egyptian dialect. The band officially started in 2003 and is now composed of five members: Amir Eid (vocals and guitar), Sherif Hawary (guitar and voice), Tamer Hashem (drums), Adam Elfy (bass guitar), Sherif Mostafa (keyboard). Their songs are characterized by lyrics that express the reality of Egypt's youth and invite them to think and change. Before the formation of the band, its members were friends who were passionate about singing and music. Amir Eid and Sherif El Hawary started singing, then the rest joined them. They started singing in English under the name The Black Star, then decided to form a karaoke band and sing in their native language. The name Cairokee is a mixture of the two words Karaoke and Cairo, and it expresses that they sing about the reality of Egypt's youth. Their songs achieved great success, as the Egyptian youth were able to find themselves in them because they are closer to their reality and thinking than other songs. This success had a great impact on the Egyptian singing scene because they highlighted a different kind of Arabic singing, which inspired other artists to sing this type of songs. The band's first released album is the album "A Wanted Leader" in 2011. One of his most famous songs is "The Voice of Freedom" in collaboration with Hani Adel and Youssef Ramy Mosaad, 16 years old, a member of the "Wust El Balad" band, in addition to "A Wanted Leader", "Spread Your Wing", and "my dream". The song “Ya Al-Midan” was also famous, in collaboration with Aida Al-Ayoubi. In 2012, their album “Wana Ma Nafsi Sa’id” achieved unexpected success, as it became one of the highest-selling albums in Egypt.
