The competition is played in the knockout system with 92 teams, 80 of which enter the first phase, and the teams that compete in the Libertadores, in addition to champions of the Brasileirão Série B, Copa do Nordeste and Copa Verde, and the 9th place in the Brasileirão 2022, enter directly into the third phase. First and second phases are played in a single game. In the first phase, in the event of a tie, the club best positioned in the National Club Ranking advances. In the second phase, if there is a tie, the vacancy will be decided on penalties. From the third phase onwards, clashes are always in round-robin matches. In case of equal points after two clashes, the tiebreakers are:
1) goal difference,
2) penalty shootout.
