You are about to discover the Friends of the Sea app, part of the "Books for everyone" project: you will read the story of Guido Quarzo digitally for the first time in symbols of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
WHY CHOOSE BOOKS FOR EVERYONE
The goal of the project is to promote accessible reading for all children who, alone or with help, can choose three different ways to read the story of Amici nel mare:
with modeling they will be able to use the tap on the single symbols to listen to the narrator
or they will be able to hear the same voice in a continuous reading of the symbols, it will be easy to follow the story because the symbols light up when they are read
finally they will be able to choose the alphabetical text, deciding whether to read or listen, the narrator accompanies them also in this part
AN INCLUSIVE STORY
To involve children in the story, the author Guido Quarzo rewrote the original text of Amici nel mare, adapting it to the symbols of AAC, simplifying the narrative structure to meet the needs of each child.
Little readers will find out if Pedro and Berto manage to get out of their shelters and face the sea, despite the shark. And they will have fun with a story for children who want to grow up independently.
They will also learn about the underwater world of Pedro and Berto using the tap on the animated images. And they will participate in their adventures in the games section.
The animations and games have been designed by the Paideia Foundation in collaboration with linguists, doctors and speech therapists in order to help children develop their sensory and linguistic skills.
Finally, children have at their disposal a tool that talks to them, telling them stories they can understand and love.
