Christmas is one of the greatest religious holidays in which we Christians commemorate the great birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. His birth is celebrated on December 25 of each year. For this reason, the word Christmas comes from the Latin nativĭtas, nativātis which means 'birth'.

However, the term Christmas is used not only to refer to the day on which the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ is celebrated (or else called Christmas Eve), but it has also been expanding to designate the subsequent period, until the day of the Three Wise Men, which is commemorated on January 7.

Christmas Day was established for December 25 of each year, as a commemoration of the solemnity day by the Catholic Church in the year 350, an event that occurred thanks to Pope Julio.

However, in the Bible, the exact day of Jesus' birth is not mentioned. Hence, the celebration of Christmas at first was not part of Christian traditions.

The main reason for setting December 25 as the special date of celebration of the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ, responds to the nascent need of the Catholic Church to replace the festival of Saturnalia (or Saturnalia), which is considered traditional in Ancient Rome, which also coincided with the winter solstice and was celebrated by the so-called pagans, and thus facilitate the acceptance of Christianity.
