About ON FLAMENCO

Every summer in the mining city of La Unión, in Murcia, the most popular flamenco festival in the world is held: the International Festival of Cante de las Minas. Singing, guitar, dance and flamenco instrumentalist are the four categories of its competitions, which are held after a few days of flamenco galas where the stars of today's flamenco attend. Great artists such as Miguel Poveda, Vicente Amigo, Rocío Márquez, Mayte Martín, Juan Habichuela 'Nieto', Curro Piñana, Pencho Cros, Agustín Carbonell "El Bola" or "El Mati", among others, have passed through his contests.

The building of the Old Public Market (the "Catedral del Cante") is the headquarters of this festival, and represents the history of mining in the area. Since 1961 flamenco has had a special appointment in this town, which through its competitions decided to bet on preserving the native songs of the area.
