About SISAB Skolkultur

Welcome to SISAB's guide to art walks to Stockholm's schools and preschools. Get inspired to take a tour of the artwork found in the city's kindergartens and kindergartens. Take the opportunity to explore how schoolhouse architecture reflects the development of the times in a constantly growing city.

Our schools and preschools are primarily workplaces for people of different ages. They are a very important part of Stockholm's urban development and also interesting time documents that reflect the city's "annual rings".

The buildings cover a large time span. Our oldest preschool has roots in the 17th century. The youngest schools are being built today. Most of the schools built in Stockholm since the middle of the 19th century are still there today. More than half of SISAB's approximately 200 elementary and upper secondary schools are culturally classified. Here's more to discover!

In Stockholm schools there is an art treasure that has been built up for more than a century and shows the expression and artistic techniques of different eras. Students and staff should be able to meet art in their school.

Throughout the 20th century, the City of Stockholm has purchased so-called loose art that has been deposited in the schools. The art collection also consists of real estate-bound art, which has been ordered for a special school in connection with new construction in accordance with the so-called one percent rule. For new buildings and major renovations and extensions, we set aside one percent of the rent-based production cost for artistic decoration.

The art in Stockholm's schools and preschools has many times been recognized and rewarded with awards. For us at SISAB, it is a great opportunity to decorate our premises with art.
