Earthquake 2019:
The notion prevails everywhere “earthquake jolted the land”, paying less attention to what
actually jolted i.e. bellies. The earthquake 2019 jolted not just the land of Mirpur but the bellies
of its people too. When earth tremored, it’s Muslim Hands Mirpur (MHM) who fought the real
battle of food shortage. The perilous situation forced MH to initiate the “Open Kitchen” for the
affected ones. When they were in a terrible predicament, MHM pushed itself hard to provide
cooked food to counter the food shortage issues. It was distributed from dozens of distribution
points through the force of volunteers who were actively involved in kitchen drive to help the
effected people. This two month “Open Kitchen” drive facilitated 49000 effectees. Who knows
what happiness this kitchen gave to those who suffered untold and unimaginable pain! May your
analysis-never seen paralysis.
Covid-19 Era:
There was absolute mayhem when a virus, whom someone named Corona, hit the world in 2019.
The pandemic forced the governments to implement the complete lockdown which came like a
bolt from the blue. The prolonged lockdown affected the waged labor and deprived class
extremely. When the hopes of normality withered away, Muslim Hands Mirpur initiated “Open
Kitchen” to provide cooked meal to encounter the precarious food shortage situation. To provide
them food at their door steps, volunteers go the extra mile. The doors of the MHM office was
opened for every soul. Every new day gave birth to different menu, every sunset paved the way
for new menu set. The sheer hygienic food was provided to nearly 18000 effectees during the
Covid-19 lockdown.
Ramadan Kitchen:
Ramadan, calendar shows its serial order 9, when Muslims are on cloud 9, the month carrying
absolute blessings serve every class. But! Lower class cannot afford the blessings of meal due to
inflation, the inflation that came into being by the devil’s virus, corona. When people lost their
jobs, MHM initiated “Open Kitchen” to provide relief where people were served hygienic food
the whole month. Volunteers followed the voice of their heart which led them here to bring
smiles on the “fade faces”. Every year in Ramadan, “Open Kitchen serves large number of
beneficiaries like 1200 souls in the year of 2019. In Ramadan 2020, 8000 beneficiaries were
accommodated during the second wave of pandemic. The “Open Kitchen” 2021 served 18000
people, while the Ramadan of 2022 saw 15200 beneficiaries.
Eid-ul-Adha Qurbani Project:
Eid-ul-Adha, the sacrificing eve, an eve when people slaughter the particular halal animals to
gather the blessings of God by distributing the meat among needy ones. History confirms that
family that supports one another thrives. So, the world being a family have to support each other
to flourish. Keeping in view the aforementioned thought, MHM started the Qurbani project since
its foundation in Mirpur (2015). In all these years, hundreds of cattle’s were slaughtered to
distribute the meat among the deprived community. Dozens of pack having 3 and 5 kg meat were
distributed among the deserving’s. In 2015, nearly 500 families were accommodated, whereas
the year of 2016 saw the number of 700.
