Mother's Day is a special holiday, in full celebration joy, to thank a special woman in each household, ie mothers. The date of Mother's Day celebration varies around the world. On this day, mothers usually receive gifts and flowers from their children as a token of appreciation. Carnations are considered by many as one of the most suitable flowers as a gift for mothers.
According to history, Mother's Day was initiated by Anna Jarvis (May 1, 1864 - November 24, 1948). She was single, and was closely bonded with her mother. Anna's mother was a very thoughtful and kind lady. She recommended to designate a day to commemorate the great mothers who gave selflessly. Unfortunately, she died before her wishes were fulfilled. Anna began to hold big scale Mother’s Day celebrations in 1907, and started the movement to make Mother's Day a statutory holiday. The first official Mother’s Day was on May 10, 1908 in West Virginia and Pennsylvania in the United States. In 1913, the United States Congress established the second Sunday in May as the statutory Mother's Day. Anna's mother's favorite flower during her lifetime was carnation, hence carnation became the symbolic of Mother's Day flower.
