Raniganj Chamber of Commerce, established in 1959, popularly known and short named as RCC is now perhaps the oldest and largest mofussil Chamber of its kind not only in West Bengal but in entire Eastern India. Its membership spread from Dhanbad of Jharkhand to Kolkata in West Bengal. The present strength of membership is almost 950. A number of other chambers of commerce, as well as leading trade and industry organisations of our district, are its affiliates. If the strength of these affiliated members is taken together the membership comes to more than 3000. Similarly, our chamber is affiliated with state and national level organizations of trade and industry viz. FICCI, CII, BUVM and BNCCI etc. Our prime objective is to facilitate achieving self-sufficiency by our country in every sphere, promote the overall economic development of our region (Asansol Durgapur Development Authority Area), redress different problems faced by trade, industry, and service sectors. In the process, the up-gradation of infrastructural facilities in the area had all along been our prime and paramount concern. In fact during our six decades of sincere service to the community and the society; nay to the nation, we have been primarily acting as a bridge between the trade/industry and different departments of state and Central Govt. Besides safeguarding the legitimate interests of the members, rendering service to the common people has been one of the prime objectives ever since its inception. Though it may seem somewhat paradoxical, it is a fact that this chamber acts more as an organization for the common people than an association of the businessmen only.
This chamber has had the privilege of having representation in many advisory and consultative committees of the Union and State Governments like Industry, Railway, Telephone, Central Excise, Sales Tax, GST, etc.
Mannalal Bharatia, Fulchand Santhalia , Satya Narayanji Goenka were the first president, Vice President and General Secretary of first and founder Executive Committee. The other Executive members were Nathmal Bhoot, Brijlal Losalka, Govind Ram Khaitan, Badri Prasad Dalmia, Nathmal Bajaj, Ram Prasad Loharuka, Mohanlal Kataruka, Krishna Gopal Jhunjhunwala, Prahlad Rai Khaitan, Dwarka Prasad Bajaj, Prahlad Rai Todi, Ram Gopal Saraf, Sudama Prasad Gupta, Onkarmal Khandelwal, Ramnath Shaw and Banwarilal Dalmia.
It has had the unique distinction of being visited by many high dignitaries like former Honble Governors of West Bengal, revered and most venerable Maharajs of Ram Krishna Mission ,Union and State Ministers and senior officials of Central and State Governments, including, Chief Secretary of the State etc.
That the chamber has traversed a glorious journey of more than six decades of remarkable services rendered not only to the trade and industry community but also to the society in general has indeed made its each and every member proud. Be it a matter related to industrial development, Telephone services, Electricity, Banking, Railways, Post and Telecommunication, Taxation, Coal, Civic Amenities, Labour, Law and Order or stabilisation of Raniganj area the first and foremost name comes in the mind of members or the general citizen is Raniganj Chamber of Commerce.
Besides holding seminars and conferences on current and relevant topics on regular basis, RCC had came forward to provide relief for the victims of devastating natural calamities in Maharastra and Gujrat in the past. The Chamber also provided fund for help and rehabilitation of the families of the officers and Jawas who became martyrs in the Kargil war. It has also donated Rs.2 Lakh, collected from its members, to provide such relief to the victims of the recent devastating and unprecedented natural disaster in Uttarakhand and also to PM and CM fund."
