BYCATH, an application created by SEO/BirdLife in collaboration with the CEAB-CSIC, makes it possible to report accidental catches of sensitive marine fauna (seabirds, cetaceans and other marine mammals, sea turtles, sharks and other fish of interest) that occur during fishing activities, both professional and recreational. These unwanted catches represent a serious threat to these marine organisms, as well as causing inconvenience and loss to fishermen.
The data obtained will contribute to a better understanding of incidental catches (when, where and how they occur, in which gear and which species they affect) in order to understand the problem and find effective and agreed solutions.
The application can work with or without Internet coverage and allows uploading capture data and photos at the time they are produced or later. It is available in Spanish, Catalan, Galician, and English.
