The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) through its Environmental Team in close coordination with the Peruvian State, international cooperation and academia, has developed and updated the mobile application: ID Maderas (2nd version). This application has been conceived as a tool that facilitates the activities of control and verification of forest products, and also as an academic reference in the field of wood anatomy.
ID Maderas provides offline technical information for the identification, by comparison, of 40 of the most commercialized Peruvian timber species. The application includes macroscopic characteristics of the wood, general and reference information, and real images of radial, tangential and cross sections. These images represent views through a hand lens (10x magnification) of a properly taken sample.
