Pigging in the context of pipelines refers to the practice of using devices known as "pigs" to perform various maintenance operations. This is done without stopping the flow of the product in the pipeline.
These operations include but are not limited to cleaning and inspecting the pipeline. This is accomplished by inserting the pig into a "pig launcher" from launching station. The launching station is then closed and the pressure-driven flow of the product in the pipeline is used to push the pig along down the pipe until it reaches the “pig receiver” at receiving station.
This app gives accurate and estimated arrival times at intermediate stations along the pipeline, helping accurate operations planning as the pig passes through the pipeline.
Main features:
• Detects the launch and receipt of pigs
• Calculates real-time position
• Real-time estimated time of arrival
What is PPTApp?
Pipeline Pigging Tool is a system that accurately estimates arrival times at intermediate stations along the pipeline.
It uses a calculation algorithm based on:
• Pipeline diameter
• Pipeline length
• Flow measurement
• Pressure measurement
The system then applies various slippage parameters to estimate the distance the pig has travelled through the pipeline. The expected time of arrival (ETA) at various points along the pipeline are calculated from the current position and flow measurements.
The application has an easy-to-use operator interface that provides the user with the ETAs of pigs in the line.
It was designed to use by pipeline operations only.
