About SCAD Risk Calculator

The SCAD Calculator was developed with an aim to identify patients with a high risk of Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) as a causative factor for Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS).
SCAD is suggested to be the cause of ACS in up to 1% to 4% of the patients presenting with ACS. Multiple risk factors such as female gender and connective tissue diseases have been identified as risk factors for SCAD but there has been no definitive scoring system to risk stratify these patients.
Our research was based on National Readmission Database (NRD) from 2016 to 2019. NRD is a large database developed by Healthcare Research and Quality Agency (HCUP). It contains data from approximately 36 million discharges (weighted) in the United States. The database is derived from State Inpatient Database and represents patient discharges from 28 geographically distinct states. We used NRD data from 2016 to 2017 for our derivation and 2018-2019 for validation of the SCAD score and risk.
