About RETRO STATION Recklinghausen

The augmented reality app guides you through the mining department of the RETRO STATION in the Institute for Urban History. The permanent exhibition on the history of the city of Recklinghausen, or RETRO STATION for short, has been reopened since 2015. Let AR and videos of former miners guide you through the mining department and learn more about chewing and longing. Interactive 3D models reconstruct the coal density in Recklinghausen and the surrounding area as well as the General Blumenthal colliery with shafts 1, 2 and 6 in the Paulusviertel. The General Blumenthal mine (1878-2001) was once where a new commercial area is being built near the city center and a local recreation area attracts walkers. Explore the historic site through a virtual replica of the mine site. Text, image and sound documents provide information about the history and function of the individual buildings. Or chat with Paul Wiemann (also called The Photographer), a sculpture by Erich Bödeker, about the naive art of the miners and the everyday life of the miner.

The content of the app was developed as part of the “Shift at the shaft. The Paulusviertel after the coal ”by former miners of the General Blumenthal colliery.
