About Skin DEEP CW
Skin DEEP is the history of child welfare by race which fills a gap in our quest for cultural
understanding and cultural humility by providing an online and on-demand course detailing how
families of color have historically interacted with the American child welfare system and the
impact. Course creator and instructor Attorney Shanelle Dupree, explains the ways race and
poverty are interconnected through policy, the law, and various practices. This course will create
a foundation of learning and spark individuals and organizations to ignite change for families.
Through a dozen interviews of Skin DEEP guest lecturers, they provide concrete examples of
organizations who engage authentically with families of color, suggests ways to develop trust,
and the need for further progress.
