The Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives and UMKM of East Kalimantan Province currently has a Provincial Information System (SIP) or Market Needs Market Monitoring System to provide accurate and reliable price information. Pricing information in SIP Prov. East Kalimantan is reported online and in real time by regional contributors. Online reporting activities of commodity prices for basic commodities will directly help improve the performance of the Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives and SMEs in terms of price stabilization and price disparity, especially in activities to increase the effectiveness of monitoring prices of staple goods and development of trade information systems in the context of developing Early Warning System (early warning) of scarcity of staples.
So far the activation of the SIP Prov. East Kalimantan is still in the scope of the acquisition and reporting of prices of staple goods, even though this information system is capable of becoming a broader and qualified information system as an information and early warning center to anticipate price shocks. It also can be used to collect supply and stock data as one of the factors that affect the price stability of the staple goods themselves.
The rapid development of communication technology, also demands SIP Prov. East Kalimantan to provide effective and efficient price and supply data input apps for field monitors. So far the available system is still web-based and SMS which makes it difficult for local officials to input / update price data every day.
In addition to developing information systems on basic necessities for price and supply stability, SIP Prov. East Kalimantan can also be developed to monitor the development of leading commodities and exports owned by East Kalimantan Province with additional modules of leading commodity information systems in the Regency / City as well as information on export developments from ports and container terminals in East Kalimantan Province.
As an information center, SIP Prov. East Kalimantan is also capable and can be developed as a source of knowledge and information to the public to educate about consumer protection and quality control of goods, as well as information on the Goods Quality Certification Testing Center which includes testing facilities, tariffs, and calibration services. Through this information that is integrated in the SIP Prov. East Kalimantan will provide knowledge and information to the wider community about the services available from the Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives and SMEs.
The importance and strategic availability of price data and supply of staple goods at the district / city level requires the need for application development and the addition of modules updating the latest stock and supply data so as to increase the ability of the East Kalimantan Trade Office to be more responsive to indications of distortion food stability and be more precise, accurate, and quick in making decisions in maintaining price stability and food stability in general in the East Kalimantan region.
