The application includes several prayers to Our Lady of Aparecida. The best solution for daily prayer.
The story of Nossa Senhora da Conceição Aparecida begins in the middle of 1717, when the news arrived that the Count of Assumar, D. Pedro de Almeida e Portugal, Governor of the Province of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, was going to pass through Vila de Guaratinguetá, on the way to Vila Rica, today, the city of Ouro Preto (MG).
Summoned by the Guaratinguetá Chamber, fishermen Domingos Garcia, Filipe Pedroso and João Alves went looking for fish in the Paraíba River. They went down the river and got nothing.
After many unsuccessful attempts, they arrived at Porto Itaguaçu, where they threw the nets and caught an image without the head, soon after, threw the nets again and caught the head, then threw the nets again, and this time, abundant fish filled the net.
For years, the image stayed with Philip, until he presented his son who, using love for the Virgin, made a simple oratory and started to meet with his family and neighbors, to receive the Lord's graces for Mary every Saturday. The fame of the extraordinary powers of Our Lady spread throughout the regions of Brazil.
Around 1734, the Vigário de Guaratinguetá built a chapel at the top of Morro dos Coqueiros, open to public visitation, on July 26, 1745. But the number of the faithful increased and, in 1834, the construction of a larger church began. (now the Old Basilica).
In the year 1894, a group of priests and brothers from the Congregation of Redemptorist Missionaries arrived in Aparecida to work on attending the pilgrims who flocked at the feet of the Virgin Mary to pray with the “Aparecida” of the waters.
Pope Pius X, in 1904, gave the order to crown the image solemnly. On April 29, 1908, the church received the title of Minor Basilica. A great event, and even central to our devotion to the Virgin, was when, in 1929, Pope Pius XI declared Our Lady Aparecida Patron of Brazil, with these objectives: the spiritual good of the people and the increasing increase of devotees to the Immaculate Mother of God.
In 1967, completing 250 years of devotion, Pope Paul VI offered the Rose of Gold to the Shrine of Aparecida, recognizing the importance of the Shrine and stimulating worship to the Mother of God.
As time went by, devotion to Nossa Senhora da Conceição Aparecida grew and the number of pilgrims increased. The first Basilica became small. It was necessary to build another, much larger temple that could accommodate so many pilgrims. On the initiative of the Redemptorist missionaries and the Lords Bishops, on November 11, 1955, construction began on another church, the current New Basilica. In 1980, still under construction, it was consecrated by Pope John Paul II and received the title of Minor Basilica. In 1984, the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) officially declared the Basilica of Aparecida National Sanctuary, being the “largest Marian Shrine in the world”.
In 2017, the Church celebrated the 300 years in which the image of Nossa Senhora Aparecida was found by three fishermen in the waters of the Paraíba do Sul River, in 1717.
