What is Spiko?
Spiko is a software for mobile phones and tablets, aimed at practicing phonemes, being an intervention game for phonological and articular disorders.
It is addressed to speech therapists and parents as it gives an opportunity to practice the voices at home.
The Spiko application includes 5 target phonemes (Θ, Δ, Σ, Ζ, Ρ), where each phoneme is divided into 5 or 6 different levels.
Level 1 - Initial phoneme position in two-syllable words.
Level 2 - Initial phoneme position in polysyllabic words.
Level 3 - Initial phoneme position in two-syllable words.
Level 4 - Initial phoneme position in polysyllabic words.
Level 5 - Final position of a phoneme in two-syllable and multi-syllable words.
Level 6 - Initial, middle and final (if any) phoneme position in two-syllable and multi-syllable words.
Each level corresponds to a different track. The track ends when Spiko manages to overcome all the enemy-obstacles.
In each track there are 10 enemies-obstacles that each displays a word-image. The child is called to produce it. If the child says the word, the therapist or parent should press one of the two special buttons (indicating the correct or incorrect answer). The enemy barrier only disappears when the therapist or parent presses one of the two special buttons.
Each track can be played more than once, as the word-images appear in random order in each repetition.
Upon completion of the track, the final performance score is recorded. This enables the quantitative measurement of the child's progress.
