About Samson

This is an educational app for research project on healhcare. The app is developed for research purpose only and is used by patients participating in the research trial. This medication adherence smartphone APP addresses the cognitive, behavioural, and affective aspects of medication adherence, fostering the development of good adherence behaviours that can be maintained long-term in a chronically unwell patient population. This app is co-designed by Swinburne University and Peter Maccallum Cancer Centre.

a. Study Details.
Around 50% of people struggle to take their medication as prescribed and there are many factors influencing this, such as forgetfulness or avoidance because of negative side effects. When medication is not taken as prescribed, it not only leads to more hospital admissions, but also can affect the medication’s effectiveness in treating the illness. This is particularly important for people with a chronic illness, such as cancer. Because of this, we developed the SAMSON App, which is designed to help patients to take their medication (Ibrutinib) on time, as prescribed.

b. Study Team/Organisation.
The SAMSON app was designed by researchers at Swinburne University of Technology, in collaboration with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, in Melbourne, Australia.

c. Study Goals.
The aim of the SAMSON study is to help patients who have been prescribed Ibrutinib to: (1) remember to take their medication on time, as prescribed, and (2) encourage patients to problem-solve and self-manage side effects and medication related difficulties (3) improve medication related safety.
