About FLASHBACK : El Trenico

The Vasco - Navarro train, affectionately described as "El Trenico", turned out to be the engine of change in the lives of the people who inhabited the mountains and the Alava plain. It connected, in its second section with Estella -the first connected Vitoria with Bergara and Altos Hornos-, from where merchandise, people, culture, economy, tourism, knowledge, growth ... life were transported.

This project tries to link through the senses the history of the region in those 60s. It is a retrospective in time to perceive the progress, learn about the life of our ancestors and look towards the future knowing where we come from.
"FLASHBACK" takes us to a futuristic reality that portrays a close past. Situated within the route that “el Trenico” traced, next to the old Maeztu station. It is a mural of more than 30m in length that narrates "The Wait" for or during the trip: life in the stations and the importance of these beautiful architectures in the life and social, economic, tourist and cultural growth of the inhabitants of the area.

The mural works as a window to an augmented reality, where experiences can be discovered through sounds, testimonies and interactive visual elements. The objective is to create a retrospective experience for the viewer and make him participate, to learn in a fun and experience-based way of creating your own discovery.

The use of the mobile phone and the download of the application (FLASHBACK: El Trenico) will be necessary to access the complete experience designed by Irantzu Lekue and Tecnalia, with the collaboration of the Arraia-Maeztu City Council, Álava Provincial Council, Fundación Vital and the KSI Berritzaile program of the Basque Government.
