About Ten Mile High Routes

The U.S. Interior Highlands is a mountainous region in the Central United States spanning northern and western Arkansas, southern Missouri, eastern Oklahoma, and extreme southeastern Kansas. The name is designated by the United States Geological Survey to refer to the combined subregions of the Ouachita Mountains south of the Arkansas River and the Ozark Plateaus north of the Arkansas.

The app supports and provides GPS tracks of loop trails hikes, trails section hikes, and rivers paddling trails with points of interest/features along each track within the US Interior Highlands. It features a 1700 mile US Interior Highlands thru hike and paddle from Little Rock, Arkansas to Kansas City, Missouri.

Paddlers' trails
Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma have nearly innumerable crystal clear rivers floatable by families and experts alike that often times flow next to the Interior Highlands hiking trails. There are 15 mapped paddlers' trails that adjoin the Interior Highlands section trails. 817 miles of rivers open to paddlers, rafters, kayakers, and tubers year round not including the White and Missouri Rivers.

Ozark Trail
The 390 mile Ozark Trail traverses the Mark Twain National forest from northern terminus at the Meramec River to its southern terminus at the upper arm of Norfork Lake. Most sections are open to hiking, bicycling, and equestrians.

Ozark Highland Trail
The 320 mile Ozark Highland Trail traverses the St. Francis-Ozark National forest in Arkansas from its northern terminus at the White River to its southern terminus at Lake Ft. Smith State Park. Many sections are open to hiking, bicycling, and equestrians.

Buffalo River Trail
It traverses along the Buffalo River from Ponca Arkansas to Dillard's Ferry on the Buffalo. The Buffalo River Trail is now part of the Ozark Highland Trail.

Keystone Trail (Final name is TBD)
The 80 mile trail along the shoreline of Norfork Lake is under construction with the combined efforts of the OTA and OHTA with the support of the U.S. Corps of Engineers .

Ouachita Trail
223 mile Ouachita Trail traverses the Ouachita National forest from northern terminus Talimena State Park in Oklahoma to its southern terminus Pinnacle Mountain State Park near Little Rock Arkansas. Open to hiking.

Katy Trail
290 mile Katy trail plus 56 mile Riverfront Trail stretching from Kansas City to St. Louis along an old rail bed is not really in the Interior Highlands and can be part of a NOBO thru hike or you can bicycle its entire length.

Loop Trails
There are numerous loop trails for day and weekend hiking within the U.S. Interior Highlands that adjoin the main section trails. Most Loop Trails are open to hiking, bicycling, and equestrians.
