Rising of Tourist Police:
GPB has established a special unit named Tourist Police Gilgit-Baltistan in 2019 with its motto “we serve and protect, enjoy the nature”. Dr. Mujeeb ul Rehman Khan, Inspector General of Police took the initiative to introduce service oriented tourist police to boost the tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan, which is the mainstay of its economy.
Mandate:
Tourist Police is responsible
1. To provide safe and secure environment to visiting tourists,
2. To provide information and guidance about tourist attractions/ destinations, culture, customs, and local community,
3. To facilitate the seamless movement of tourist on KKH, Highways, and visiting destinations,
4. To provide assistance in distress and emergency in Gilgit-Baltistan
How Should Act?
• Tourist Police GB must show civilized behavior towards all tourist whom visiting Gilgit Baltistan,
• It shall also act as a bridge between tourist and Administration/ District Police to provide safe and secure environment and assist tourist in reporting any crime committed against them.
Primary Focus:
The primary focus of Tourist Police GB shall be provided attractive and suitable environment with the security to make their travel hassle free by immediate intervention in case of any mishap.
They shall provide assistance and mental support to the victims when they are cheated, their belongings are stolen, or whenever they fall prey in to any other mischief or wrong doing.
• Shall impart information to the tourist about locations, transport, systems, facilities in the destinations, legal information,
• Provide assistance and information to tourist regarding medical help in case of physical assault, etc,
• Shall also intervene and take appropriate action in the event of pick-pocketing, eve teasing, harassment of tourists.
We Offer:
• Mobile Patrols as every 15-20 KMs on KKH,
• Motorbike Patrol in a tourist destinations of GB,
• 24/7 emergency call center to provide assistance on ground in case of emergency and distress,
• Minor repair of vehicles in case of breakdown,
• Provision of reliable information
Our Role in Covid-19 Pandemic Situation:
Government of Gilgit-Baltistan has decided to start controlled tourist for domestic and foreign tourist to visit uncrowned tourist destinations i.e. mountains, lakes, national parks for mountaineering, trekking, paragliding, and rock climbing for survival of the tourism industry in a pandemic situation.
Tourist Police GB has prime role in implementation of SOPs for controlled tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan.
