The "Pediatric Trauma: Guidelines" is coordinated and directed by Dr. Alberto E. Iñón, renowned pediatric surgeon in the field of pediatric trauma, a member of national and international associations, author of numerous publications and director of the Pediatric Trauma Program.
According to UNICEF, 750,000 children die annually because of illness accident, trauma, injury, or accidents, as it is called interchangeably. Each country has specific rates of mortality from external causes injuries. In Argentina and in most countries of the world is the leading cause of death in children, adolescents and young adults.
Pediatric Trauma Program began (PTP) in 1989 and is a set of projects and actions related to different levels of prevention, primary, secondary and tertiary, to mitigate the impact of injuries from external causes in children.
The implementation of this program in Argentina was declared of interest by the Senate of the Nation at the regular meeting of November 25, 1999.
