About LASA 2019

The current configuration of global capitalism has produced an unprecedented dissolution of national and community identities and, at the same time, an unprecedented crisis of population movements.

Forced migrations, diasporas, exiles, escapes gave rise to all kinds of alliances (autonomous political communities, forms of artistic collaboration, micronations, re-emergence of the indigenous question) and political phenomena as a result of the displacement of bodies and languages, practices and material cultures subjected to tensions at the same time centrifugal and centripetal.

These transits (sometimes violent, sometimes secret) affected the forms assumed by cultural and racial identities, family structures and gender definitions.

The result of these processes is a world of bodies in transit, in which the norm seems to be the destabilization of the human and the production of new figures.

In their displacements, minorities and migrants carry out the complete declassification of hitherto untouchable categories and are political subjects of difficult treatment according to the classic frameworks.

This III Symposium of the Southern Cone Section of LASA, organized by the National University of Tres de Febrero, intends to deploy approaches to this condition of the present and the superposition of temporalities (the archaic, the immemorial, the imminent).
