Ustad Abdul Somad, Lc., M.A. born in Silo Lama, Asahan, North Sumatra, May 18, 1977 is an Indonesian preacher and ulema who often discusses various kinds of religious issues, especially the study of hadith and jurisprudence. In addition, he also discussed a lot about nationalism and various current issues that are being hotly discussed in the community. His name is known to the public because of his knowledge and straightforwardness in providing explanations in delivering da'wah which is broadcast through the Youtube channel. Ustadz Abdul Somad currently serves as a lecturer at the Sultan Syarif Kasim State Islamic University (UIN Suska) Riau.
His sharp and interesting studies make many people like his tausiah. Intelligent and straightforward reviews, coupled with expertise in stringing words into da'wah rhetoric, made Ustadz Abdul Somad's lectures so easy to digest and easily understood by various groups of people. Since elementary school he was educated through a school based on the Tahfiz Koran. After graduating from SD Al-Washliyah Medan in 1990, he continued his education at MTS Mu'allimin al-Washliyah Medan. After graduating in 1993, he continued his education at the Darularafah Islamic Boarding School, Deliserdang, North Sumatra for one year. Then in 1994, he moved to Riau to continue his education at Madrasah Aliyah Nurul Falah, Air Molek, Indragiri Hulu and finished it in 1996. In 1996–1998 he studied at UIN SUSKA Riau.
In 1998, he was one of 100 people who received a scholarship opened by the Egyptian Government for Indonesians to study at Al-Azhar University beating 900 other people who took the test to get the scholarship. Abdul Somad got his Lc degree in three years and 10 months.
Then in 2004, the Moroccan kingdom provided 15 scholarships for postgraduate education at the Dar Al-Hadis Al-Hassania Institute which annually only accepts 20 students with details of 15 Moroccans and five foreigners. Abdul Somad was also selected to be included in the quota for the 5 foreigners through the master's degree scholarship, which he completed in one year and 11 months.
