Based on the belief that education is the foundation and channel for permanent change in attitudes and behaviors, the Katie Brown Educational Program (KBEP) promotes respectful relationships by teaching relationship violence prevention. The KBEP Consent Awareness Pledge (CAP) serves as the capstone for KBEP’s school-based programming, as resources and skills learned through CAP are a culmination of the integrative experience of our work towards preventing violence in the lives of young people. The KBEP Consent Awareness Pledge mobile app is a versatile tool that allows students, parents, and community supporters to learn and support healthy relationships through the end of the school year and long after a student's K-12 career has ended. High school juniors and seniors who download the app pledge to promote healthy relationships and to acknowledge that they understand and accept the consent (or lack thereof) of their peers. Through the app, students have on-going access to resources, the CAP pledge, and tips that are vital to student safety. Parents and community members who download the app gain access to the same information that the minors in their care receive. Additionally, the Parent Portal portion of the app allows adults to best equip themselves to have frank conversations regarding consent with the minors in their care.
