About Weg für Genießer

Hiking app with aerial panoramas and AR technology

In addition to the right maps for hikers and cyclists, six tours are suggested and described here, on which you can experience a lot. Once you have decided on a tour, you can start the hike. The route is started with the “Hike now” button and you can see exactly where you are on the map. All interactive waypoints are marked here. If you approach one of the marked waypoints, the smartphone signals - even in your pocket by vibrating and sending a push message - that there is something to discover and experience. If the camera of the smartphone is then aimed at a certain motif, thanks to modern AR (Augmented Reality) technology, interactive content about the location appears. For example, closed museums and churches can be opened virtually. In addition, you can climb up like a helicopter at these points and get an overview of the places or nature from a lofty height.

A special feature are the all-round panoramas (360 ° spheres), which show all interactive waypoints from above: You can look in all directions and even zoom in on distant points. The direction of view changes intuitively as you align the smartphone. Associated information and descriptions appear for this. But also special places such as the distillery museum in Steinhagen or various churches can be experienced as all-round panoramas - even with the doors closed. In addition, short video clips such as B. shown with the "real" traditional sausage carrier in Versmold, who brings history to life in his very own personal way. Every moment, as well as screenshots from the panoramas, can be shared directly from the app on social media.

Those who hike through all six stages can experience a total of 15 interactive waypoints, which, once reached, remain unlocked in the app and can be opened and relived at any time - even at home. In addition, a virtual hiking pass is set up in the app, which can enter a digital stamp in the app when passing one of the seven stamping points - analogous to the actual stamping points. When all seven stamps are complete, a small reward with a certificate can be requested from the publisher.

Interesting for every generation
During the conception, developer and designer Markus Stein (ID Kommunikation Stein, Werther) was concerned with making this app easy to understand and use by everyone. It is specifically aimed at people of all generations who enjoy nature and culture and who own a smartphone. The app was financed with funds from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (Ministry for the Environment, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, Vital.NRW/GT8) and by the participating municipalities and can therefore be used completely free of charge by everyone.
