It inhabits “dirty” fields, capoeiras, pasture boundaries, plantations (corn, sorghum, cotton and coffee, among others). It is also known as lambu, inhambu-mirim, foot-incarnado, amazon-boiada, bico-de-lacre, inhambuzinho and nambu foot red. Like most tinamiformes, it is more often heard than seen, making it a difficult bird to photograph. It is one of the most common tinamiformes in Brazil, after the yellow quail (Nothura maculosa).
